母のブログをご覧の皆さん、いつも母がお世話になってます。
いつもは日本にいる母から見たリッチモンドの情報ですが、今回は現地で感じたことについて私から情報を発信させていただきたいと思います。
リッチモンドと聞くと中国人を始めアジア系の人が多く留学先としてどうなの？と思う方が多いと思います。自分もそうでした。しかし、いざ行ってみて生活してみると、言葉はお互い非英語ネイティブなので通じやすいし、文化も日本人になじみ深く、海外に慣れていない日本人が住むにはとても良い環境だと感じました。特に本場の中華料理が手頃な値段で食べられるのは、カナダでの、なじみがない食生活を送る中でひと時の安らぎとなります。個人的なお勧めは、アバディーン駅に直結しているアバディーンセンターの中にあるフードコートです。四川料理や餃子などの点心、シンガポールチキンライスがおいしい海南料理屋など、魅力的な店がいっぱいあります。
さて、おなかが空く話をさせていただいたところで学校についてです。
授業の難易度は、日本の高校のレベルより低いです。特に理数系は日本である程度高い水準の教育を受けていれば、多少の言語面での問題があっても、しっかりと単位を取っていけます。しかし、日本でやらないような事や、日本とは違う考え方をすることも多く、そこを柔軟な思考でこなせるかどうかによって成績が変わります。
また、授業中の教室の雰囲気は先生によって大きく異なり、ストイックに厳しい先生の授業もあれば、やることやっていればOK、でゆるい雰囲気の授業もあります。
また、生徒も自由奔放な生徒が多く、厳しくない先生の授業だと、先生の講義中もAir
Podsを付けたまま授業を受けている生徒も見かけます。
また、(特に一日の終わりの授業で)授業が終わる数分前ごろから教室中がそわそわし始め段々と片づけを始め、ベルが鳴ったらすぐ教室を出る、と言うことが良くあります。
今回は文化と学校生活について書かせていただきました。また機会があればもっと深堀してリッチモンドの様々な魅力についてご紹介させていただきたいと思います。

My mother always provides you with information about Richmond, but this time I would like to write about Richmond.
I think many people hear about Richmond and wonder if it is a good place to study as there are a lot of Chinese and other Asian people here. It was the same for me. However, when I came here and started living here, I found that the language is easy to communicate with as we are both non-native English speakers and the culture is familiar to Japanese people, making it a very good environment for Japanese people who are not used to living abroad. In particular, being able to eat authentic Chinese food at a reasonable price is a comforting experience for those who are not used to eating in Canada. My personal recommendation is the food court in the Aberdeen Centre, which is directly connected to Aberdeen Station. There are many tempting places to eat, including Sichuan cuisine, dim sum such as dumplings, and a Hainanese restaurant that serves delicious Singapore chicken rice.
Now that we've talked about food, and now let's talk about school.
The level of study is lower than that of Japanese high schools. If you have a certain high standard of education in Japan, especially in science and mathematics, you can get proper credits even if you have some language problems. However, there are many things that are not done in Japan and it requires a different way of thinking from what you have done in Japan. Your study scores will be determined, depending on whether or not you can handle these things with a flexible mindset.
The atmosphere in the classroom varies greatly depending on the teachers. Some teachers are stoically strict and others have a more relaxed atmosphere where it's OK as long as you do what you're supposed to do.
Many students are also free-spirited, and in classes with less strict teachers, you may see some students wearing their Air Pods while the teacher is lecturing.
Also, it is common (especially at the end of the day) for students to start fidgeting in the classroom a few minutes before the end of class, and to gradually start cleaning up and leaving the classroom as soon as the bell rings.
This time I wrote about culture and school life in Richmond. If I get the chance, I would like to go into more depth and introduce the various attractions of Richmond.
